Today was a day of misunderstandings.
We left Aprica in the morning and got to Brescia before noon, taking in some awesome mountain and lake views on the way. It took a while to find a parking spot – this town is packed! Once we did, we went to town, but soon had to come back to the van to sort out some issues, spent ages trying to find a place where we could take a shower without any success, then back to the van for a wet wipe bath, then back to town to go to a museum, then trying to book a place to stay for the night, then visited the castle in the dark, then back to the van for the laptops to do some more planning, into a restaurant that sold what turned out to be €4 orange juice, then back to van and to what we hoped to be a nice sauna where we could wash, then back to town after it turned out that the sauna required a ridiculously expensive membership, then various parking places trying to catch WiFi, and finally, finally back to the castle car park to sleep in the van.
To sum up, the lack of washing facilities is starting to take it’s toll and is more difficult to sort out than expected.
On a positive note, the museum was pretty awesome, featuring two Roman houses, amazing mosaics and other assorted ancient and medieval artefacts, as well as a couple monastic church halls filled with fantastic frescos. Walking around the castle in the dark was great as well – can’t believe they leave the grounds open at night, it’s such a treat! Ah, also, really good pizza and a random encounter with a big band playing at a gallery opening. Not a wholly bad day then.
