Jemma and Simon at a Ruins/Excavation, Temple, UNESCO site in Africa, Egypt

Today was a painful reminder that Egyptian infrastructure is in dire need of modernisation. I wonder how often do they need to change suspension in cars here.

The temples of Abydos and Dandera are both awesome, but to be honest, if we knew that we will have to spend almost 8h in the car, we would think twice. And to be double honest, the whole temple thing is getting a bit old now. Maybe if the imagery at least sometimes ventured beyond the ‘Pharaoh offering stuff to a god’ theme… But at this point it really feels like a broken record.

It really feels like a bit of an expensive way to waste the day – especially since we booked this trip with Ibis, so heavily overpaid.

Also, we had a new guide today, Maria. Ahmed’s cousin has passed away and we can’t get our phones to work and send him a message with condolences.

  • Grocery shops don’t really sell food here. They sell snacks and drinks, but nothing substantial.
  • Did we mention that the tipping culture is annoying?
