We were hoping to make it to Wells to see the cathedral before they close it, but Google lied to us saying we have until 7pm – it actually closed at 5. We once again found a spot to bathe in a stream, had a little walk with forgotten dinosaurs and wizards, and headed up to the Deerleap car park which had great views towards the sea.

On Monday, the weather broke – is cold and drizzles periodically. We made it to the Wells cathedral and it was well worth the wait. Those scissor arches are awesome. We had a quick look at the bishop’s palace and headed towards Glastonbury.

After a short walk through the high street of generic spiritual tat shops from all cultures and religions, we made it to the Abbey ruins. Amazing! We got a good tour, saw the site of the game grave of King Arthur, and then got a message that our mortgage had been approved! With this gift from the absent King, we moved on to the Tor tower (nowhere to park there, turns out!), Had some lunch, and walked down to make the mistake of going to the Chalice Well which is a great example of McDonald’s spirituality.

Next, we headed off to Cheddar and the Gorge. It is gorgeous indeed! We had a walk down some goat paths, saw their creators, climbed the Jacob’s ladder illegally and the viewing tower getting in over the closed gate. Criminal adventures are a hungry business, so we headed in the rain for a hearty pub meal.

Before the end of the day, we headed to Bath, found there are no sensible parking spots around and eventually found a spot near the university.
