We arrived in Bayeux last night and found a parking spot in the town centre. Unfortunately it was raining heavily all night and in the morning – the weather hasn’t been very kind to us on this trip, but at least we’re warmer now. After a slow start the next day, we got to the cathedral. The cathedral is really beautiful with a romanesque nave and gothic facade and upper levels.

We had wanted to find a cute cafe for a cake and hot drink, but the town just seemed to have restaurants. After walking around for a bit trying to find what we were after, we decided to go with our usual approach and buy bread, cheese and tomatos from the supermarket and eat outside, as finally we had some sunshine!

Next was the Bayeux tapestry! I have wanted to see this since I was a child, so I was super excited about it. It didn’t disappoint, it was awesome. It’s so detailed, we went over it twice to make sure we saw everything. I think this is the highlight of the trip so far.

Before leaving Bayeux, we visited the Battle of Normandy museum. I didn’t like this one as much as the Somme 1916 museum we went to the other day,  as it gave way to much information and was pretty confusing. We also briefly saw the massive WW2 cemetry in the city, with about 5000 graves.

Onwards to le Mont Saint Michel…
