OK, body, can I please sleep tomorrow? Waking up at 6 am is not fun if there is a full day ahead of me…
Today was the day of museum and gardens. The museum was OK, but not what I was after – the section on the history of Melbourne was OK, but the one on aboriginal culture was closed and the local wildlife only partially open. The rest was just genetic dinosaur-human body-nature stuff that’s on in every other museum.
But the gardens… Melbourne is fantastic for having a great amount of green spaces, Parks and gardens, including pretty nice botanical gardens. And I don’t mean tiny patches of grass, I mean Hyde Park size stuff. They are all wonderfully calm and quite varied – perfect for a stroll especially if one wants to stop every now and then to continue reading the book one needs to review soon. I happily spent most of the day moving from one beautiful spot to the next.
In the meantime I noticed that my enthusiasm for sunny warm weather is slowly passing, as evidenced by the developing healthy shade seeking behaviour. On a related note, another observation to add to yesterday’s list: I can’t believe how smartphones ever caught on in this country. I can’t see anything at all on this bloody reflective screen even if I stand in the shade.
And yet another observation. I’m waiting to cross the stree— PEW!!! Duck quick where is my light sabre?! Wait, what was that, did someone just… no, it’s the changing pedestrian lights that make a blaster sound! Pew-pew on the streets all the time, those people have some serious adrenaline training every day.
In the evening I went drinking with the other couchsurfers in a park. But not just any park – this was Batman’s Park! Actually, from what I hear, Melbourne was this close to being called Batmania, because one of its founders’ name was Batman! I have no pity for them though, they clearly disobeyed the rule: be whatever you want to be, unless you can be Batman. Always be Batman.
