Simon at a Mountain, Waterfall in Brazil, South America

Yesterday and today I did hardly anything at all, and it’s wonderful. I didn’t get out of bed until late, I caught up with some friends over the Internet, I read my book, hanged out in the hammock, made plans, had thoughts… I walked to town for a bit, checked out the water cascades on the little steam that flows through Lençóis, checked out some shops, had food, hanged out in the evening with a beer. Nothing much, really, but it feels like proper holiday.

Today I had a lazy morning as well, but then went on to one of the travel agencies to book a trip for tomorrow. I then asked what sort of places I can go to on my own today and if Cachoeira da Primavera is an option. To which the girl who was helping me said sure, started explaining me the way but at some point stopped and just said – I have an hour lunch break now, want to go together?

That was so wonderful! I love random adventures like that! Juliana took me up the stream on a path that I would definitely not find on my own, climbing up the boulders at an amazing speed. The climb got steeper and soon we were just going up the waterfall – amazing! Soon we got to the Primavera waterfall itself and took a refreshing shower in it. Then Juliana took me further up to the top of the hill from which the waterfall stream flows, from where great views of Lençóis opened. Then she had to run back to work, and left me next to another small waterfall.

Everything about this trip was wonderful – just the sheer randomness of it, how wonderfully full of love for nature it was, how human-free, just us and nature, how open and nice Juliana was (I know much about her and her family now!), how it led me through places I wouldn’t go to otherwise, the sheer speed with which we made the route, just the fact I had someone to talk to… Totally made my day. And the best thing is – she offered doing another trip on Monday when she’s off work – likely a whole daytrip. See, she wants to go to places as well, but rarely gets to, because a lone girl on the track might not be safe, so she’s just happy to have company. This is perfect, I hope Monday works out!
Anyway, I spent some time reading at the waterfall. This one had a bit of a crowd around it, as there are pools you can swim in at the bottom – someone even dragged a porta-fridge here and was selling drinks. Incidentally, I really wonder what Brazil’s licensing laws are, since it seems that pretty much anyone can just sell alcohol around here.
I found a quieter spot further down the stream, and made some plans for videos I would like to record. But the mosquitos drives me away, so I moved on to a place Juliana told me to check out – a field of massive boulders that much have been ejected in a volcanic eruption and now firm a labirynthine rubble full of tight passages, hidden chambers, and steep climbs. So much fun playing in them! At the end of the passage I sat to read for a bit longer, until the sun set behind the hills.
I got some food in town, bought stuff for tomorrow’s pack lunch, and head home to chill in the hammock some more. I like this hammock. I think I need one.
