Jemma and Simon at a Lake, Park, UNESCO site in Europe, Germany

At about 8pm, we walked back to the van and headed towards our next stop: Bautzen. Enroute, we decided to check out another UNESCO site: Biosphärenreservat Oberlausitzer Heide- und Teichlandschaft. This is a nature reserve, with beautiful lakes. We pulled up by one lake to have some dinner – more leftovers from the family party on Sunday.

This was an amazing spot, next to a huge lake with beaches, but unfortunately the carpark closed at 10pm so we had to find somewhere else to park for the night. There were a few lakes nearby, so we drove around to find another lakeside parking spot. The one we did find was by a small lake with lots of birds living there. After parking, we went for a walk in the trees and found a small lakeside hut for bird watching, where we hung out for a bit, thoroughly enjoying the evening solitude. Then off to bed.

The next morning, we immediately drove back to the lake with the beaches and spent about an hour there. We ate our breakfast with a gorgeous lake view and swam. The water was so clear! And it’s nice to be in a country where people just swim naked anyway.
