Jemma and Simon at a Lake, Mountain in Europe, Slovenia

We woke up at 5.45 am this morning, as the carpark we were staying in stopped being free at 6 am. We jumped in the car with the plan to drive to Lake Bo.. and have breakfast there, but when we drove passed Lake Bled, the sky was purpling in preparation for sunrise and it looked so incredible that we stopped there for tea and breakfats instead. We sat at the end of the jetty to take in the amazing views, and stayed until the sun eventually appeared over the mountains. This place is truly stunning – I just wish Lake Bled was a little less touristy.

After sunrise we drove 30 minutes to Lake Bo… The scenery here was quite different, as the lake had a thick fog hanging over it. It looked pretty awesome and we took the opportunity for some atmospheric skinny dipping in the icey water.

We decided to do a hiking trail from the map outside of the tourist informartion office. We drove to the place where the trail started, which was a pretty nice hostel. Even though we had already eater cereal for breakfast, we ate a second breakfast at the hostel to fuel-up for a day of hiking.

The hiking trail was lovely. We took a pretty steep route to get to the top, as a mountain ranger advised us that it was better to do the most difficult part of this trail first. This gave us stunning views of the lake we had dipped in ealier. It was a pretty warm day, and we were annoyed with ourselves for not bringing the bigger backup to carry all the layers of clothes we were pealing off – although Simon did construct a makeshift backpack out of my raincoat. Part-way up the mountain was a little lake – we went for a very quick skinny dip as the water was really freezing.

We followed the trail further up the mountain and along to another hostel. We stayed here for a little while, taking in the amazing views of the surrounding mountain ranges, including the tip of Triglav. Then we made the long descent, which continuously zig-zagged down the mountainside. It was starting to get cold and dark, so we speed-walked the last stretch to get down before we lost the light.

We were definitely in need of a wash after a day of hiking, so went for a final dip in Lake Bo.. Then we drove to Austria, as we had decided to start the jounrney home and maybe check out some lakes on the way.
