Parking around Bath is a pain – ended in a street parking by the university. We started the day in a drizzle checking out the fantastic aqueduct – not Roman but Victorian, allowing narrowboat travel with no locks. We wanted to check out the Prior Park where Opeth’s Morningrise album cover is from, but it’s expensive and it’s rainy, so we decided to give it a miss. Instead, we spent some time looking for a parking spot (what a pain!) and eventually parked at the Travelodge carpark, convincing the staff to let us stay.
We were sceptical about the Roman baths, but they were well worth the money. Not as massive, but really well preserved and excavated, with a very good and informative museum. Very full, too, which felt quite uncomfortable post-covid.
Next, the Abbey. Really interesting history and amazing fan vaulting! By the time we got out, it was raining more heavily and we quickly went to check out The Circus and the Royal Crescent. By that time, it was a proper deluge. We were soaked way before we got to the car, and when we did we decided that there is no point camping in the rain and better to just go to Bristol where we can stay at Aimee’s and Tuomas’ place.
