Jemma and Simon at a Graveyard, Museum, Temple in Europe, France

After leaving the Somme region, we continued on our way to Amiens. The cathedral was extraordinary, with amazing statues and carvings all over the facade.

Then we went to the Jules Verne museum in his old house.

Simon wanted to see his grave, so we headed to the cemetery outside of town. It was about 6pm by then, but the gate was open so we thought nothing of it and wandered in to find Verne’s tomb, which turned out to be pretty far in. Unfortunately, we couldn’t really see the tomb properly, as the sculpture on it, of a man pushing his way out of the earth, was covered in blue plastic, probably to protect it from the winter weather. But we took a photo anyway and went to exit the cemetery. However, when we got back, the gate was now locked and the fence was far too high for us to jump over. We got pretty scared and had to walk for quite a while before we found a brick wall short enough for us to climb over, at the back of the cemetery. I think I will avoid visiting any more graves tomorrow.
