Short Polish trips, Sat, 17 Oct 2020 | written by Simon
Jemma and Simon at a City, Sea, Temple in Europe, Poland

In the morning we packed up to leave the apartment, and drove off East. First stop: Pustkowo. Where as a young kid I spent every summer with my grandparents. I called them to check on the specific location we stayed in and I think I found it! Took a whole short film about it – hope they will like it. It’s not as stormy as yesterday, but still quite windy and miserable, so the walk to the beach was intense, but it was worth it! The whole thing was a really lovely experience for me – I don’t get nostalgic often, but this is definitely something that stirred some sweet memories in me.

When I was a kid, we would always walk to Trzęsacz through the forest. Today we drove to see the remaining wall of the church that has fallen down the cliff as the sea advanced. It doesn’t sound like much, and the wall is really small, but it makes an impression and feels quite magical.

The next two stops were two towns on the river Rega: Gryfice and Trzebiatów. There are some cool stories about the rivalry between the towns, some nice churches, and a famous 17th Century elephant. Ultimately, Trzebiatów was more interesting, especially with a the large Marian church which was built Catholic, became Protestant, and is now Catholic again – with some interesting features betraying its past.

Around 4pm, tired with the weather, we stopped to take stock and decided that given the weather, we don’t want to continue the journey. Instead, we turned back to stay a night in Zieleniec, sort out our stuff, and go back to Poznań. The trip turned out to be short and rainy, but still filled with some great sightseeing!
